MRS ROMANTIC BY MAMAN TEDDY 1

Katsina State (Baya Jidda Road, G.R.A., gida biyu...). You could not hear any sound inside the room except the melodious recitation of the Holy Quran by Sheikh Sudais, who was reciting Suratul Baqarah. The entire room was completely silent, save for the recitation, the gentle whir of the ceiling fan, and the soothing coolness of the AC. There was a pleasant, rich fragrance of air fresheners and sweet incense.
It was a very large room dominated by exquisite royal furniture in a milk color, accompanied by a soft, luxurious carpet spread in the middle of the room. By the window sat a sofa next to a small fridge. Near the mirror was a large table neatly stacked with various Islamic religious books. Close to the entrance door was the television setup. The entire room emitted an enchanting, deeply soothing fragrance.
Near the royal bed, men's small items were arranged: a black P-cap and a black leather wristwatch. Down on the floor in front of the mirror stood a pair of black boots. A single glance at the room told you it belonged to a man of extreme cleanliness.
At 11:31 AM that Tuesday, as the room clock chimed, the bathroom door slowly opened. Calmly, he stepped out, placing his well-formed foot covered in pitch-black hair onto the small carpet laid at the toilet door. Before stepping out completely, he closed the door. Instantly, the room blended with the scent of the shower gel he had used. Slowly, he walked toward the dressing mirror, wrapped in a navy blue towel around his waist, with a milk-colored towel slung over his neck as he dried his body.
It was Dr. Nura Darma! A steadfast, vibrant young man full of self-respect and elegance—some even nicknamed him "The King of Baths" because he mastered the art of taking refreshing, immaculate baths, combined with exceptional cleanliness and the natural gift of handsome physical features and complete maturity.
He was a handsome, tall, chocolate-skinned young man exuding maturity and calmness. He was not noisy by nature, nor did he wear a frequent smile on his face. With a naturally striking and stern facial structure, even an enemy would have to admit he deserved the title of a warrior and a real man who took pride in his dual education—both modern and Islamic. He rarely spoke unless he chose to or when it concerned his work; he detested disrespect and held a deeply unforgiving nature.
He let out a soft breath for the first time as his large white eyes landed on his clothes. At that exact moment, his phone—which had been playing the Quranic recitation—began to ring, instantly cutting off the recitation. He blinked softly, opened his eyes again, and looked at the wall clock. Ignoring the phone, he calmly picked up the comb from the mirror top and began to groom his soft, smooth, black hair and his well-rounded beard, which greatly enhanced the beauty of his face and instantly captured the attention of modern young women. His prayer mat lay right in the middle of his forehead, looking stunning on him. His red lips were slightly full but not long; if he chose to compress them, no one could see them. He had broad muscles and a muscular physique due to his frequent exercise routine.
Noticing that the calls flooding his phone would not stop, he hurriedly dressed in a red t-shirt, black trousers, and a P-cap that suited him remarkably well, radiating an alluring scent. At first glance, you would mistake him for a black foreigner (mixed-race/foreign-looking Nigerian). True to his serious nature, he walked out of the room holding his rubber keychain. He paused to lock his bedroom door, glanced toward Mamy’s side of the house, and walked with that confident stride some people called arrogant!
His motorcycle was parked right at the porch of the main parlor. Without a smile, checking his phone, he pushed open the door and stepped in with his usual composure and deep voice, saying: "Assalamu Alaikum! Masha Allah, what a gifted voice..."
A beautiful woman of about 48 years was sitting on a couch, dressed in a gold Atamfa wrapper and blouse. A single glance told you she was his mother due to their striking resemblance. If not for her respect for Islamic greetings, she wouldn't have even answered him. As if she had been waiting for his entrance, she immediately started trying to stop him:
"If you aren't going, go pick up my girl, or I will call Khaleel even though he is in school so he can go get her! She just called me not even 5 minutes ago to say she has alighted from the transport vehicle. Do you want her standing out in the hot sun waiting for you, or what?"
Ever since she started her scolding, he had been standing by the door without even sitting down. He knew that when it came to that insolent girl, Mamy was blind and deaf. So she hadn't even arrived yet, and she was already scolding him? If not for Mamy, by God, he wouldn't have gone to pick her up. But she would pay for this...
"Are you listening to me and staying silent?"
"Oh my God! Please, Mamy, I am going to pick her up. Besides, for gossip's sake, couldn't she enter a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) instead of someone having to go pick her up?"
"Did you say what?"
Without answering, wearing a scowl, he walked out, mounted his bike, and rode out of the house's main gate, expertly navigating onto the main street.
He headed directly for his large shop (chemist), which had been open for less than two weeks. Upon arrival, he found Isma'il busy attending to customers buying medicine.
"Yaya Nura, you're back?"
"Uhmm! Did you go pick up Anty Ahyaan?"
With a hardened, squeezed face, he replied, "I don't know," walking inside to sit on a chair and began tapping away on his phone with a stern expression.
He hadn't even sat for a full five minutes when his smaller phone began buzzing with incoming messages and a barrage of calls from people inquiring about things. He just sucked his teeth in annoyance and refused to pick up, adhering to his strict rule: no calls, only texts. Some people didn't call to ask questions, though—they just wanted to hear his voice.
Hearing a car horn outside, he let out a small hiss without looking out, merely twitching his face and continuing to tap on his phone.
"Yah Shaikh!" he heard the voice of his friend Mu'az. It took him about five seconds to lift his head, lock eyes with him, and throw a glare his way. Mu'az just smiled and said, "Are you waking up with admirers today, my friend?" as he walked into the shop, tossing his car keys and catching them.
He greeted Isma'il, who responded and asked about Mamy, before saying, "Darma, get up let's go!"
Dr. Nura twitched his mouth and said in his husky voice, "Right now, in the afternoon sun, we are going to people's houses? It's past 12! Can't you wait till evening?"
"Honestly, I can't. I already informed her we would come so you two can greet each other and see one another. Even when you were in London, I used to put her on the phone with you so you could talk, but I prefer you see her face-to-face now that you're back."
As if he wouldn't say anything, he twisted his face again and dismissively said, "Look, I'm just going to fetch that girl from the motor park. You know she was in Kaduna doing her NYSC, and now she's done. Mamy just pressured me to go pick her up at the park."
"Uhmm, my friend, you never tire, wallahi! I thought you two had long stopped that childish cold war with Ahyaan, or is it because the years have stretched a bit? It's been 8 years since you went to London—I doubt she's even seen a picture of you since you left, and you came back without meeting while she was in Kaduna..."
"Please, stop talking about that girl," said the main man himself, twisting his face.
"Hahaha, a girl! As if you two aren't peers. I think she might even be older than you by a week or so..."
Instead of answering, Darma threw a heavy punch toward him while glaring fiercely. Mu'az dodged while laughing, checked the time, and said, "Ustaza, get up let's go pick her up, and from there we go see my princess."
"Tsssiw! You bastard! Are you a hurricane yourself?"
"Hmm! It's better Ammi marries you off before you start snooping around other people's daughters! Look at you sitting there; if that wedding date hadn't been fixed, wallahi there would have been trouble. You'll just sit down and fast constantly because of the urges troubling you, because wallahi I know the fasts you keep twice a week must have a hidden meaning..."
Mu'az fell silent seeing how the man was glaring at him and also glaring at Isma'il, who was sitting and attending to customers (even though the boy wasn't listening to their chat, he still wasn't spared the glares). "Please get up, let's go."
Darma didn't say anything. He picked up both phones, put them in his pocket, stood up, and said, "You just wait for me here; when I return, we'll go."
"Ah ah, let's go since I came out with my car! But I won't let you drive—you'll crash us with that crazy speed of yours."
"Fine then, let's cancel the trip," Darma replied.
Laughing, Mu'az said, "I'd love to see the woman who will marry you, because she has a tough job ahead of her!"
Darma ignored him, and they stepped out of the shop. At that exact moment, a sleek white luxury car parked beside Mu'az's car. Darma didn't even give the car a proper look; instead, he snatched the keys to Mu'az's car and walked toward the driver's seat with haughty arrogance, puffing out air because he assumed the driver was Bilkisu.
And as it turned out, his guess was correct. As he tried to enter the car, he heard her voice saying, "Doctor, please I want to..."
He completely ignored her and climbed into the car without even looking at her. Mu'az took one look at her, looked away, and sat in the front passenger seat, knowing that even if Dr. Darma was spoken to, he wouldn't acknowledge her. Mu'az thought to himself: She acts like she has class and self-restraint as an educated young woman, yet there is no sign of actual class here. He just smiled and said nothing.
As for Dr. Nura Darma, he was still furious with this girl. It had only been 6 days since he first met her when she came to buy medicine. The very next day, she returned claiming she needed to change the medication because the previous one was too strong, and asked for his contact details. When he refused, she threatened to call him and have him bring something to her house. The vicious glare he threw at her back then had chased her away in a hurry. So why was she back today? He had no idea what she wanted.
"Wallahi, my friend, I love Fatimah so much I can't even count how much, which is why the wedding date was fixed while you were away. But now you'll be around for the wedding; maybe you'll find your own choice too during the festivities..."
Mu'az’s words cut through Darma’s reverie. For the first time, he let out a brief, enigmatic, charming smile that looked exceptionally good on him. In his deep voice, he said, "As for me, long ago I decided it wasn't for me." He finished speaking as they entered the motor park, wondering to himself: Will I even be able to recognize Ahyaan? It had been 8 years and some months since he last saw her, even though he knew it was unlikely that insolent girl would recognize him. He let out a snort remembering how, on the eve of his departure to London, she had actually bitten him hard on his big toe when they were both 20 years old.
"Is that her over there, my friend?" Mu'az asked, pointing at a stunning young girl standing with her trolley. Her well-proportioned body was dressed in a women's black suit (jacket and skirt). She had adorned her face with massive, stylish, black designer sunglasses, covered her head with a white scarf matching her inner blouse, and wore ultra-pointy high heels and a white handbag. She wore no makeup, yet she looked breathtakingly gorgeous. No man could lay eyes on her and look away. At a single glance, you would naturally call her a classic lady. She possessed an intoxicating kind of beauty—when I say beauty, I mean beauty pushed to its absolute, ultimate limit.
That was Ahyaan! A young lady full of grace and class. From her feet to her head, everything about her was exquisite. She had a well-defined, captivating figure that drew men's attention. Her skin was a rare, hard-to-find chocolate color, matching her rounded face adorned with a perfectly proportioned nose and large, bright white eyes, Masha Allah!
Despite her stunning face, she wore a frown because she was furious that no one had come to pick her up on time, leaving her standing out in the hot sun. She had also heard rumors of his return to Nigeria from her mother two weeks ago. Her anger was boiling right up to her throat—typical of a hot-tempered person. She had resolved that once she boarded a Keke NAPEP and got home, she would detonate a bomb on him in front of Mamy.
With that thought, she adjusted her posture and tried to flag down a NAPEP.
Gulp! Mr. Mahuta, sitting inside the front of his car and watching Ahyaan like a television screen, swallowed hard, started his car, approached her side, stopped, and stepped out. Just as she had flagged down a NAPEP and he was trying to reach her, this all happened right in front of Nura Darma. Ever since Mu'az pointed her out, Darma had given her one glance and looked away—all while Mr. Mahuta stepped out of his car right before his eyes.
"My friend, I think you should get out and speak to her so she can get in and let's go. Look, there's someone over there about to talk to her—just look at the way he's staring at her!"
Darma ignored him completely and didn't reply.
"May your life be long, and good afternoon!" Ahyaan heard Mr. Mahuta’s voice behind her, along with his heavy perfume.
She twitched her face, flared her nostrils, and headed straight toward the NAPEP rider without sparing the man a glance, instantly feeling a deep sense of aversion toward him. That was just how she was: anyone who dared say they loved her became her ultimate enemy. That was why she was 28 years old and still unmarried—not because she lacked suitors, but simply because she didn't want to yet, and the right time hadn't come. At first glance, you would think she was no more than 23 or 20 years old because of the wonderful physique God had blessed her with.
Mr. Mahuta gave a small smile because the girl had completely captured his sanity. He fixed his gaze on her hips, looking at her with lustful intent and thinking impure thoughts in his mind. Lowering his voice, he said, "Haba baby, someone like you shouldn't be standing in the hot sun trying to catch a public tricycle. That doesn't fit your class because..."
He couldn't finish his sentence because she suddenly spun around, hissed loudly, and shot him a piercing glare right through her dark glasses. Then, turning her attention back to the NAPEP rider, she said, "We are going to G.R.A. Baya Jidda Road," glaring at the rider too because she saw him staring at her with half-closed eyes, enjoying the flute-like sweetness of her voice.
Lolx. Just as he tried to speak, she felt someone step up behind her, carrying an exquisite, refreshing fragrance that outshone both hers and Mr. Mahuta's. Her heart skipped a beat at the sound of his authoritative, slightly deep, and resonant voice uttering:
"You! Move and get into the car, let's go." He spoke with zero playfulness on his face, fiercely locking his upper and lower brows together.
Even without turning around, she knew his voice. She turned around with all her swagger, flashing a wicked smile that nearly paralyzed Mahuta, who was standing and watching them alongside the NAPEP rider. Her heart dropped when she saw that Darma had transformed into a striking young man looking like he was 35 years old, every bit of his rugged, alpha-male physique fully manifested. He radiated an overwhelming aura of dominance and commanded the entire space, especially with his scowl. Even though she knew he was handsome in the past, his current handsomeness far surpassed his past self by leaps and bounds.
She stared at him for two seconds, shot him a ferocious glare, and looked away with utter disdain before saying, "Mister, are you okay? You come here blocking my way—who are you, and what do you want from me?" she said, twisting her face as she tried to shove her luggage trolley into the NAPEP...

2. Summary

The story introduces Dr. Nura Darma, a wealthy, extremely clean, highly disciplined, and stern young man living in Katsina State (G.R.A. Baya Jidda Road). After returning from an 8-year stay in London, he lives a quiet, focused life split between his medical/chemist business and his religious studies.
His mother, Mamy, pesters him to go pick up Ahyaan, a stubborn, classy, and exceptionally beautiful young woman who has just finished her NYSC in Kaduna and has arrived at the motor park. Ahyaan holds a fierce grudge against Nura because of their past history and because he delayed in picking her up, leaving her standing in the sun.
When Nura—accompanied by his friend Mu'az—finally arrives at the park to fetch her, they find another suitor, Mr. Mahuta, trying to chat her up. True to his arrogant and aggressive nature, Nura refuses to play nice. He physically intervenes, dismisses Mr. Mahuta with intimidating warnings, and forcefully bundles Ahyaan and her luggage into the back of his car, setting the stage for an explosive, chemistry-filled clash between two stubborn equals.
