English Translation

"Allah... Nene... forgive me... Baffa... my father... farewell... I am done... goodbye to all the sweet things of life... La'ilaha illalah..." And then she slumped completely, collapsing limply against his body without any movement.

"Mubrak!" He spoke, looking down at Dagori, who lay unconscious against him.

"Yes, Sar!" One of the five men behind him responded, snapping to attention in a sharp military salute.

"Jabir!"

"Yes, Sar!" He replied, also snapping to attention as they stepped forward side by side.

"Arrest him. Then search every corner of the house and ensure you capture everyone inside, and make sure you confiscate every single piece of evidence, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem."

"Ok, Sar." They spoke in unison. The one called Jabir immediately rushed toward the Oga (boss) lying on the floor, slapped handcuffs on him, slapped a gag over his mouth, and picked up the firearm lying right beside him. The other two men fell in behind Mubrak to secure the inside of the house, leaving Jabir and one other guard stationed outside.

He reached down, scooped her up in his arms with a bridal carry, and stepped toward the exit, only to be halted by the voice of the Oga calling out from the floor:

"Asad Abubakar Majoh! Let this be clear to you—having a female lion doesn't make you a lion hunter. Stop carrying yourself around like some kind of king or legendary warrior. A true warrior is never known for cowardice! Dragging a whole squad of men here just to capture me doesn't prove your bravery. If you were truly brave, you would have come and faced me alone, without any backup. And let me tell you, arresting me is the biggest mistake you will ever make in your life."

Slowly, Asad turned back and flashed him a handsome, confident smile. "Mashkur Taula, be careful, okay? You need to realize that every single word coming out of your mouth serves as evidence against you. So you better keep your mouth shut and weigh your words carefully."

"Hhhhhh! Do you think you're some kind of untouchable bastard, or what? Well, you've wasted your time! If it were up to me, you would release me right now, pack up your kids, and get out of here. Hmmm, if you don't, you won't like what's coming. Because I will hunt you down—from you to every single person who supports you!"

Without giving him another glance, Asad walked out of the house.

He had been sitting in the hospital reception ever since she was wheeled into the operating theater, his face tightly locked in a scowl that made it impossible to read his mood. Hours had passed since they took her in, and the doctors still hadn't emerged.

"Asad, where is she? Is she safe? What happened to her?"

The soft descent of Abbi's voice caused him to slowly open his heavy, bloodshot eyes—discolored from intense operations, lack of sleep, and zero rest. Slowly, he ran a hand through his hair, adjusted his posture, and felt a heavy weight in his mouth as his pounding headache flared up. Speaking in his signature cool, soft voice, he said:

"She underwent surgery because she was shot in the arm. The doctors haven't come out yet; they are still working on her."

With that, he clamped his mouth shut as if a seal had been placed on it, which was actually a huge effort for him since he was naturally a man of very few words.

"Shot? Did I hear you say shot? You mean they shot her? How?!" Mami asked, assuming that was all the explanation he was willing to offer.

Nene and Baffa, whose hearts had turned cold at the mention of a gunshot, caused Nene to reach out and steady Mami.

"Look here, Asiya, calm down, okay? In sha Allah, Dagori will recover. Didn't you hear him say the doctors are working on her? Right now, what we need to do is pray, thank Almighty Allah for sparing her life, and simply beg Him to grant her complete healing."

Mami lifted her tear-filled eyes to look at her, brimming with deep sympathy. You could hear the pain cracking through Nene's voice, and read the intense anxiety written across her eyes. Mami couldn't speak; even if she opened her mouth, she had no strength left to utter a word.

She, too, was a mother. She knew the bitter, crushing anguish a mother feels when her child is hovering between life and death. She knew Nene was only putting up a brave face, but was internally shattered. She was certain that even Baffa, who openly showed his worry, wasn't suffering as deeply as Nene, because Nene was a mother. She was merely hiding her agony behind the stoic, quiet endurance typical of Fulani elders, but she was under severe emotional torture.

They stood around like rigid pillars, unable to even sit down, each lost in their own anxious thoughts. Suddenly, the operating theater doors opened, and the lead doctor stepped out, flanked by two nurses.

Abbi rushed over to block his path. "Doctor, has she woken up? Is she alright?" he asked with intense eagerness and longing for news.

"For God's sake, calm down and follow me to the office right now."

Everyone trailed behind him, with Asad walking in last and taking up a quiet spot near the corner.

"Alhamdulillah, we successfully saved her life. Fortunately, the bullet didn't penetrate too deeply into her body."

In unison, everyone in the room let out a massive sigh of relief—everyone except Asad, whose face remained completely unreadable, neither showing joy nor the opposite.

"Can we go see her now?" Baffa asked—his first words since they arrived at the hospital—his face lighting up with relief upon hearing she was alive.

"Yes, you can see her, but she is currently asleep and desperately needs rest. So please, when you go in, absolute silence is required; any noise could distress her."

"Aside from the gunshot wound, did they do anything else to her?"

Not just the doctor, but everyone in the room whipped their heads around to stare at Asad, who spoke as casually as if he hadn't just asked a profound question.

"No, nothing at all. Aside from mild malaria resulting from mosquito bites, there is nothing else wrong with her."

Upon hearing that, Asad turned right around and walked out of the hospital entirely.

She lay pale and brightened on the hospital bed, an IV drip hooked to her arm pumping blood into her system. The bridge of her nose looked sharper, and she breathed slowly—a labored, exhausted breathing even in sleep, causing her to occasionally twitch her face in discomfort.

Nene, sitting beside her bed, couldn't hold back her tears any longer; they slipped down her cheeks, though she frantically tried to wipe them away before anyone could notice.

The sound of greetings made her lift her head. Aimanah, Ashraf, and Habu walked in.

Aimanah and Inty burst into loud tears at the sight of her condition.

"Be quiet for us!" they heard a sharp, commanding voice ring out.

Instantly, their blood ran cold, and they huddled close together, terrified. They recognized that voice instantly—it belonged to someone who never tolerated nonsense. Right at that exact moment, Dagori's eyes fluttered open.

Slowly, she blinked awake, and her eyes locked straight onto Asad, who had just walked back in with a face as dark and stormy as a thundercloud. Not a single person in the room had noticed her waking up because they were completely frozen by Asad's earlier reprimand.

"Asad, you wicked man, may Allah curse you! As long as I have lived, I have never seen a cruel, oppressive tyrant like you! Well, your evil wish didn't come true—they didn't manage to kill me. I escaped! Allah saved me and I didn't die! Despite all the brutal torture you put me through, by God, you will never sniff paradise—how could you even hope to see it when you're not even walking the path that leads there?! By Almighty Allah, He will never let you get away with this! Even the temporary sweet treats you used to bribe me with are enough for Allah to punish you! And I swear by Allah, I, Dagori, am your equal match for as long as we live! Put it in your mind that whatever evil plot you orchestrated against me, you will never—"

With a sudden burst of fury, Nene raised her hand, intending to strike Dagori, realizing the girl's mouth was completely incorrigible. With lightning speed, Mami lunged forward and blocked her.

"Haba Yayah! You're not actually going to beat her, are you? Not in her current condition?!"

"Please, Asiya, move out of my way and let me teach this wretched girl a proper lesson, since she has completely lost her mind!" Nene snapped, raising her hand again to strike her.

"Even if you beat me, Mami, I swear by God—even if they kill me, I will never stop cursing this wicked man! By Almighty Allah, my own ears heard them say he was the one behind my kidnapping! They even said they were going to drain my blood! It was only by the grace of Allah that I escaped!"

"You! Mai Babban Suna, let me not hear another word out of your mouth, you hear me?!" Baffa intervened with a stern, dangerous warning.

"No, Hamma, just leave her, it's the pain of her injuries talking..."

"By God, Abbi, it's not the pain! I am completely fine, nothing hurts!"

Innaya, sitting comfortably on a chair in the room, chimed in: "Could it be that her jins are acting up again?"

"There are no stupid jins! It's me, Dagori! Are you guys trying to make me go crazy?! By God, it is me, Dagori! You need to believe me, that man is a blood-sucking vampire!"

The endless noise was beginning to crack Asad's head open. He set down the bag he was holding and stormed out of the room, knowing that if he stayed a second longer, he would truly lose his temper and shatter her illusions.

"Did you all see that?! He walked out because he's guilty, hmmm! No matter where you run, Asad, by Almighty Allah, Dagori's blood is way too powerful for you! And once I get my health back, I am coming straight for you!" Nene, consumed by bitter anger and disgust, stormed out of the room as well.

"You!! Mai Babban Suna, by God, the next time I hear that rubbish coming out of your mouth, I will rearrange your face!" Baffa thundered with a roar so fierce that Dagori instantly zipped her lips. In all her life, she had never seen Baffa lose his temper like that; his sheer authority commanded her immediate silence.

Abbi, noticing his brother's blood pressure rising, stepped in. "Ashraf, take these kids and head home, it's getting late. Oh, by the way, where is Kamal? I didn't see you guys come together."

"Abbi, we were on our way when his father called and asked to see him, but he said he'll be back here tomorrow morning."

"Alright, go drop them off at home, and then you can head to your own place since it's getting late."

"Oh me, Aminatu! So now Ashraf and the boys have practically become independent homeowners, huh?" Innaya teased with a chuckle, drawing laughter from the group.

"Well, what do you expect, old woman? Or did jealousy just kick in?" Ashraf fired back playfully.

"Get out of here, you little rascal! Showing sheer disrespect right in front of your elders?" Innaya retorted, flashing him a playful glare as laughter erupted once more.

"Mamin Yara, you're the one staying the night here, right?" Abbi asked, looking at Mami.

"No, Abubakar, just leave it; let Nafisa stay the night with her instead," Baffa intervened, cutting off Mami just as she was about to speak.

"There's no need for that. Just let me stay the night with her. Nafisa staying here is completely out of the question because she's too hot-tempered and holds too much grudge over how Dagori acted," Innaya declared.

"Come on, Innaya, with your elderly body, you won't be able to handle nursing a patient. Just go home and let Salame stay," Habu, who had been silent the whole time, suggested.

"Hey! Habu, don't look at me like I'm ancient! If a running race were organized right now, I'd easily win the first lap! Besides, Salame staying here with Mai Babban Suna is impossible because Mai Babban Suna looks down on Salame, and they won't get along. I am the exact match for Mai Babban Suna; she needs someone as fiery as she is to handle her!"

Satisfied with Innaya's reasoning, they finally agreed that Innaya and Salame would stay the night. Inty and the others begged to stay too, but Ashraf immediately glared at them, reminding them the hospital wasn't a party venue for them to stay up talking.

As they moved to leave, they noticed the polythene bag Asad had left behind. Abbi picked it up and opened it.

"Oh dear, he actually bought a whole chicken and juice."

"Chicken?! Where is the chicken? Give it to me! I know he bought it for me since I'm the patient!" Dagori, who had quieted down after Baffa's warning, instantly sprang up into a sitting position at the mention of chicken.

"Subhanallah! You! Mai Babban Suna, what kind of behavior is that?! And besides, you're not getting any of this chicken," Innaya declared with a shocked expression.

Dagori pouted her lips, on the verge of tears. "But Innaya, why?! What did I even do?"

"Because Asad brought it! For all we know, he might be trying to fulfill his evil plan to poison you since he couldn't drain your blood earlier! You want him to lure you here with chicken and finish sucking your blood?" Innaya said with a completely straight, deadpan face.

"Innaya, who on earth told you someone can drain blood through a chicken?!" Dagori protested, a tear slipping down her cheek.

"Mai Babban Suna, let me tell you, those people are capable of anything! Just leave the chicken for us to eat."

"If that's the case, shouldn't you guys avoid eating it too, in case your blood gets drained?"

"Oh no, we are going to eat it; nothing will happen to us since it wasn't bought in our name!"

What could poor Dagori do? Waterworks activated instantly. Weeping, she sobbed, "By God, even if my blood is going to be drained, I am still going to eat that chicken! How can I just sit here and watch a dead chicken go uneaten without me tasting it? By God, I will eat it!"

Ashraf laughed. "So you've finally agreed that even if your blood gets drained, you'll still eat the chicken?"

Sniffling through her tears, Dagori nodded vigorously.

"My daughter, calm your heart, okay? Nobody is going to drink your blood, and yes, you will eat your chicken," Mami said with a soft smile, entirely unbothered by Dagori's chaotic antics.

"By Almighty Allah, Mami, I am going to say Bismillah right now!"

Her dramatic shift sent them into fits of laughter. With that, they exchanged goodbyes and left the room, leaving behind Innaya, Salame, and Dagori, who was already devouring her chicken, having completely forgotten the torrent of insults she had just hurled at the man who bought it.

Out in the reception, they found Nene waiting to leave. She simply couldn't bear to stay inside the room any longer, witnessing Dagori hurling vile insults and disrespect at the people who had saved her life. She knew how much it must have hurt them.

Asad walked straight into the doctor's office after stepping out. They exchanged greetings, and after a moment of silence, the doctor asked, "Asad, are you okay?"

Asad let out a heavy breath. "Doctor, are you absolutely sure you examined that girl thoroughly and found nothing else wrong with her?"

With slight amusement, the doctor asked, "Like what?"

Asad adjusted his posture. "I mean... is there anything wrong with her brain?"

"No, honestly, nothing of the sort. As I said earlier, we ran every necessary test on her, and she has no medical condition whatsoever other than the gunshot wound and mild malaria from mosquito bites. Apart from that, she's completely fine."

Asad paused for a second. "You mean she's not mentally unstable? Her memory is normal?"

"Absolutely, that's precisely what I mean."

"Okay, thanks, Doctor." With those words, he stood up, bid him farewell, and walked out, muttering to himself:

"So, if I've figured this girl out correctly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with her except pure, unadulterated wickedness and delinquency! It's high time I started teaching her some real manners, because I refuse to shirk my responsibility."

His phone began to ring. Without speaking, he answered as soon as he saw the caller ID.

"Oga, we've wrapped up everything necessary. Right now, we are at the CID records office with the suspects. However, one of the men we found inside the house looked almost lifeless, but we managed to rush him to the hospital, and the doctors are attending to him—though we still don't know his exact condition."

"Okay, that's good." With that, he cut the call, strode out to the hospital parking lot, climbed into his car, ignited the engine, and drove away from the hospital entirely.

He headed straight home. Exhausted and craving peace of mind—especially with his clothes still smelling faintly of dried blood—he walked into the quiet house and headed straight upstairs. He stripped off his clothes and stepped into the bathroom, scrubbing himself meticulously until he was fully satisfied, desperate to wash away the lingering phantom feeling of the blood that had touched him.

It took him a long time to emerge from the bathroom. Once out, he slipped into a soft galabiya and stood up to observe the Isha'i prayer he had missed. He spent a long time afterward seated on his prayer mat whispering supplications before standing up to approach his bed, pulling his small laptop toward him to handle some minor remote research tasks since he didn't feel like going back to his physical laboratory.

The phone beside him began to ring. Glancing at the screen, he ran a hand through his hair and tried to ignore it, continuing his work. The call cut off, only for the phone to ring again immediately. Checking the screen, it was the exact same number. Knowing that she wouldn't stop calling until he answered, he picked up and toggled on the speakerphone.

A heavy silence lingered for a moment before a voice dripping with childish whinnying, spoiled petulance, and supreme emotional entitlement began to speak:

"Oh, my soulmate now, son of God, is this how you treat me fairly? So why would you leave without letting me know? Does that mean I hold no importance to you at all?"

She purred into the receiver, twisting her voice to sound utterly pathetic. Without stopping his work, Asad used one hand to sweep through his hair, offering not a single word in response, simply continuing to type away on his laptop.

Hearing his silence, she burst into a theatrical, whiny cry. "My, I know you can hear me, please talk to me so my heart can find peace!" She raised her voice slightly in a practiced sob designed to tug at heartstrings. But for Asad, it only grated on his already frayed nerves. Raising his voice in sharp annoyance, he snapped:

"Please, please, leave me alone! By now, you should have understood me. So please, I don't want this nonsense—I refuse, and you know it!"

Before she could utter another word in reply, he terminated the call and powered off his phone completely.

A wave of intense irritation washed over him, making it impossible to focus on work. He threw his head back against the pillows and let out a frustrated hiss for the umpteenth time...

Comprehensive Summary

This section of Daga Ruga Nake delivers high-intensity drama, shifting from a near-death crisis in the hospital to a hilarious clash of stubborn personalities and an escalating outside romance:

  • The Climax of the Shooting Aftermath: Dagori survives her gunshot wound and wakes up in the hospital. True to form, her recovery is marked by immediate chaos—she begins screaming curses at Asad, accusing him of orchestrating her kidnapping and trying to drain her blood through a chicken gift, leaving Mami, Baffa, and Nene exasperated.
  • Medical Clarification: Asad quietly consults the doctor, confirming that Dagori has no psychological illness or brain damage—she is simply incorrigibly mischievous and wicked, prompting Asad to resolve to teach her discipline properly.
  • The Schoolgirl and the Chicken: Back to her eccentric self, Dagori nearly causes a riot over a roasted chicken brought by Asad, hilariously debating whether it's poisoned while aggressively devouring it anyway.
  • Asad's Romantic Pressure: Returning home exhausted, Asad is hounded by phone calls from his demanding, spoiled romantic partner, whom he aggressively shuts down before turning off his phone in absolute frustration.

Detailed Analytics & Character Insights

1. Narrative Techniques & Tone Shifts

  • Rapid Emotional Fluctuations: The narrative brilliantly transitions from a life-or-threatening medical crisis (Dagori being shot and undergoing surgery) straight into dark comedy and family bickering. This tonal whiplash mirrors the chaotic ecosystem of the household.
  • Verbal Retaliation vs. Physical Action: While Asad expresses his control through cold execution of justice (capturing criminals like Mashkur Taula) and clinical logic, Dagori weaponizes unyielding verbal abuse and dramatic accusations, creating a relentless comedic friction between them.

2. Character Dynamics Matrix

Thematic Elements

  • The Resilience of Chaos: No amount of trauma—whether a gunshot wound or a brutal beating—can permanently subdue Dagori's wild spirit. Her immediate return to arguing and demanding food highlights her hyper-resilient, unformattable character.
  • The Burden of Control: Asad is perpetually cornered by responsibilities: he must neutralize criminal threats (Mashkur Taula), manage a chaotic extended family, and fend off a clingy romantic partner. His frustration underscores the heavy cost of trying to maintain sterile order in a fundamentally messy world.
