Description

Chapter One

Ahmad and Farida are sitting in a car, gazing at each other with quiet affection and exchanging sweet words. Farida expresses her deep love and jealousy, jokingly warning that his eyes should go blind if he ever looks at another woman. Ahmad laughs and reassures her, saying that in his eyes she is the most beautiful woman in the world, his chosen soulmate, and that their arranged marriage feels right because she is the one he truly wants. Farida expresses her anxiety and fear of ever losing him or being abandoned. Ahmad promises her that only death will separate them.

Their moment is interrupted when Sufyan (Ahmad's younger relative) knocks on the window and rudely announces that "Baba" is calling Ahmad. When they step out of the car, Sufyan mocks Farida, calling her a "giant" and a "descendant of the Samudites" who looks terrifying and ugly, claiming Ahmad is being cheated with an ugly bride. Enraged by the insult, Ahmad slaps Sufyan. Ahmad consoles a weeping Farida and takes her inside to the family (Inno, Kawu Hamza, and Baba Haruna). When Inno and the elders hear what happened, they scold Sufyan for his cruelty, and Baba Haruna promises to take action. To lift Farida's spirits, Ahmad takes her out for ice cream at Crispy Creme, where they share more comforting moments and take pictures. The next morning, before Ahmad leaves for a mandatory work trip, they chat on the phone until the network drops.

Chapter Two

Days later, Farida is relaxing in the parlor when Sufyan rudely snatches the TV remote from her hand to watch a World Cup match. An argument ensues. Inno intervenes, scolding Sufyan for disrespecting his elder and future sister-in-law. Suddenly, Mama and Aunty rush into the house in sheer panic, announcing that Ahmad has been in a severe accident.

They rush to the hospital only to find out that Ahmad has passed away and his body is covered in a white sheet. Farida breaks down in agonizing grief, collapses, and faints. Inno and the entire family are devastated.

Three days after the burial, Inno gathers the family in her parlor. Driven by a desire to preserve family tradition and arranged marriages, Inno makes a shocking pronouncement: despite Ahmad's death, the marriage arrangement will proceed, but Farida will now marry Sufyan. Both Farida and Sufyan vehemently reject the idea, calling it absurd since they dislike each other and Farida is older. However, Baba Haruna fiercely backs Inno’s decision, citing tradition and religious precedent, shutting down all opposition. Farida spends her days weeping inconsolably in Aunty’s arms, distressed at the thought of marrying a younger, obnoxious relative she despises.

Later that night, around 2:00 AM, Inno is jolted awake by a terrifying supernatural encounter: a towering, shadowy, black apparition threatens her and demands that she cancel the marriage between Farida and Sufyan, claiming to be the jinn possessing Farida, and warning of dire consequences if the wedding proceeds. Terrified for her life, Inno frantically promises to stop the wedding.

Chapter Three

The next morning at dawn, a shaken and terrified Inno rushes to Baba Haruna’s quarters, confessing that she encountered a ghost/spirit who threatened them over the marriage. She asks everyone to gather after the early morning prayers.

2. Summary

"Amaryar Gado" (The Inherited Bride) is a dramatic romance and family drama that explores themes of arranged marriage, grief, family politics, and supernatural interference. The story opens with a deep, loving bond between Ahmad and Farida, whose happiness is cut short by a tragic car accident that claims Ahmad's life. In the wake of this devastating loss, the family matriarch, Inno, insists on upholding family traditions by redirecting the arranged marriage to Ahmad's younger, abrasive cousin, Sufyan. Both Farida and Sufyan fiercely reject the union, but the older family members—led by Baba Haruna—enforce the decision. The conflict escalates into the supernatural when a terrifying entity visits Inno at night, threatening her life and demanding the cancellation of the wedding, leading to a dramatic cliffhanger at dawn.

  • Sufyan’s character provides immediate friction and conflict, though his transition from an antagonist to a forced groom adds psychological depth.
  • The sudden introduction of supernatural horror (the jinn/apparition threatening Inno) shifts the genre blend from standard family melodrama into a suspenseful thriller, heightening anticipation for subsequent chapters.

6. Conclusions
